MEXICO CITY, April 16, 2018

Juan Ignacio Londero clinched his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning the inaugural $100,000 CDMX Open held on clay at the Club Deportivo Chapultepec. The Argentine qualifier eased past unseeded Roberto Quirozo from Ecuador in Sunday’s singles final 6-1, 6-3.

Londero didn’t face a break point, capitalizing on four of his own five chances to seal victory in only 51 minutes. The 24-year- dropped just one set in eight matches to earn the title, $14,400 in prize money as well as 100 ATP ranking points.

“I started very aggressively, it was a match I wanted to win. I had beaten him three times before, the last time in Santiago de Chile, I understand his game very well, I knew how to play him. I played a perfect match. I was very concentrated and the key was never to think that we were in a final,” Londero explained.

“My service was very consistent, I tried to go for his backhand because he knew that his return is not that strong. It was the key to the match, because he never had the chance to break me or to gain a break point. To be honest, I did not expect to win so easily, especially at the altitude. I have never imagined winning a final with such a result, but it was fantastic,” said Londero, who is now close to the top 200 in the ATP rankings again, where he was a few years ago.

Earlier in the day, Yannick Hanfmann and Kevin Krawietz of Germany captured their second consecutive doubles title. The duo beat No. 3 seeded Britons Luke Bambridge and Jonny O’Mara 6-2, 7-6 in the final. The encounter lasted one hour and nine minutes.
