Echargui Prevails On Home Soil In Djerba

Local favourite Moez Echargui is the champion of the fifth edition of the Djerba Open, the eighth men’s $15,000 ITF Pro Circuit event held on Tunisian soil this season at Hotel Djerba Sun Club. The tournament’s No. 8 seed upset top favourite and World No. 351 Alexandre Muller of France 7-6, 2-6, 6-1 in Sunday’s singles final.

Echargui sent down five aces, winning 69 per cent of his first service points. The 25-year-old from La Marsa capitalized on four of his seven break point opportunities to secure victory in two hours and 30 minutes. By lifting his second ITF Futures title, his second on home soil, Echargui earns $2,160 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points.

Later in the day, Mariano Kestelboim of Argentina and German Kevin Krawietz clinched the doubles title. The top seeds edged past Eduardo Dischinger from Brazil and Ken Onishi of Japan 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. The final lasted one hour and 33 minutes.
