Kern And Choinski Flying The German Flag In Nußloch

With Robin Kern and Jan Choinski, two German players advanced to the semi-finals of the Internationale Herrentennismeisterschaften der Metropolregion Rhein-Necker um den MLP Cup 2018, held on indoor carpet at the Racket Center in Nußloch.

Kern defeated fellow countryman and qualifier Dominik Böhler 7-5, 6-4 on Friday afternoon. The 24-year-old from Nuremberg sent down seven aces, winning 67 per cent of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 22 minutes.

Next up for Kern will be Sadio Doumbia of France, who knocked out No. 2 seed Pedro Cachín from Argentina 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Doumbia finished the encounter after one hour and 50 minutes.

Fifth seed Jan Choinski cruised past Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands 6-1, 6-3 in only 53 minutes. The Koblenz native will next take on the tournament’s No. 4 Christopher Heyman, who spent six minutes less on the court. The 24-year-old Belgian only lost one game to beat Daniel Masur from Germany. Heyman broke his opponent’s serve five times to secure a 6-0, 6-1 win.
