Cagnina Captures Sunrise Pro Tennis Classic Title

Julien Cagnina clinched the singles title of the $15,000 City of Sunrise Pro Tennis Classic held on clay at the Sunrise Tennis Club. The No. 2 seed from Belgium fought past Naoki Nakagawa of Japan 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 in Sunday’s final.

Cagnina sent down six aces, winning 60 per cent of his first service points to prevail after two hours and 41 minutes.

The 23-year-old captured his 17th ITF Pro Circuit career title, his first of the season. Cagnina takes away $2,160 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points. The Liege native will stay in the United States to compete in the Midtown Weston Futures this week.

On Friday, Cagnina also lifted the doubles trophy. He teamed up with Frenchman Maxime Chazal to beat Juan Manuel Benitez Chavarriaga of Colombia and Junior Alexander Ore from the United States 1-6, 7-5, 10-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 14 minutes.
