Smith And Rola Fall In Second Round At Lexington Challenger

Sixth-seeded John-Patrick Smith from Australia and eighth-seeded Blaz Rola of Slovenia both suffered defeats on Wednesday at the $75,000 Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships, as two more seeded players were eliminated from the main draw.

Smith lost his second round match to US-American Raymond Sarmiento 6-4, 1-6, 4-6. The World No. 332 from Los Angeles won 53 per cent of the total points played to prevail in just under two hours of play.

Sarmiento will next take on the tournament’s number two Denis Kudla, who fought past fellow US-American Kevin King 7-5, 6-7, 6-1. Kudla finished the encounter after two hours and 19 minutes.

Rola fell to #NextGenATP player Max Purcell. The 19-year-old from Australia sent down eight aces, winning 72 per cent of his first service points to secure a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory in one hour and 54 minutes.

Next up for Purcell will countryman John Millmann. The third favourite cruised past Lloyd Harris from South Africa 6-1, 6-1 in only 45 minutes.
