LISBON, June 18, 2017

Oscar Otte lifted his maiden trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning the inaugural €43,000 Lisboa Belém Open on Sunday afternoon.

The unseeded German rallied past the tournament’s number three Taro Daniel from Japan 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Otte sent down 11 aces and broke serve six times to prevail after one hour and 49 minutes.

Nine months ago, the 23-year-old was still ranked outside the Top 600, now he clinched his fourth title of the season, following his triumphs on the ITF Pro Circuit in Great Britain and France, and will break into the Top 200 on Monday.

“It was really difficult today because it was very hot again. I did not start well, I missed a few chances in the first set but I managed to get stronger in the second set and continued in the third set. This title makes me very happy. It was a fantastic week,” Otte was pleased with his performance.

He takes away €9,200 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points.

“I want to improve week after week and win as many encounters as possible, trying to finish the year in the top 100 and enter the main draw of the Australian Open. That’s my big goal,” the German added.
