Philipp Kohlschreiber and Alexander Zverev headlined the action on Wednesday at the BMW Open by FWU AG in Munich with the very first meeting between the two Germans on the ATP World Tour.
Fifth-seeded Kohlschreiber dominated the match against the youngest of eight teenagers ranked inside the top 200 right from the beginning, putting a lot of variety in his shots and consequently emerged victorious in 62 minutes winning 6-2, 6-4.
“I am very satisfied with the match today. I had a great day, being able to dictate the rallies and of course my experience was pretty helpful,” the world number 26 said afterwards. “I noticed that he was standing far behind the baseline during the encounter, which made it easier for me, but I am sure that he will make his way to the top.”

The German number one will take on David Goffin in the quarterfinals. The fourth-seeded Belgian took out Simone Bolelli in their second meeting of the season. The Italian won in Sydney in January in straight but Goffin had the better ending today winning 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 after two hours and 15 minutes.

In the longest match of the day, Victor Estrella Burgos overcame Serbian wild card Janko Tipsarevic winning 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 in two hours and 20 minutes. The 34-year-old from the Dominican Republic won 70% of his first service points to set a quarterfinal clash with the tournament’s third Roberto Bautista-Agut.
“I played with a lot of confidence in my forehand. I knew that it would be a tough match because Janko is a former top ten player with a great game level. I knew that I had to be at 100%, focusing on the match. I was a break down and he was serving for the match but made two double faults and I played two very good points. I am really happy about my level of play,” the current world number 51 told Tennis TourTalk.

Estrella Burgos is one of the incredible stories on the tennis circuit, being on the ATP Challenger Tour for ages but now has become the oldest ATP champion by taking the title in Quito in February. “I am happy to play on this level having the opportunity to enjoy the tour with a lot of nice tournaments. Nonetheless, I try to continue working hard. My aim is to be within the top 30 before the US-Open and I am working for that. I have one group from the Dominican and one group from Argentina working with me and I think we are a very good team. I have never met Roberto on the tour but I know him from practicing. I have to play my best but I have already won my first title this year and I want to capture another one.”
“Unfortunately I haven’t had the chance so far to see anything of the city. I really would love to see the BMW factory. I love these cars. Getting an i8 by winning this tournament would be wonderful,” the veteran added with a smile.
Roberto Bautista-Agut cruised past Radek Stepanek winning 6-0, 6-3 in only 62 minutes. The world number 16 from Spain saved all four break points he faced and capitalized on four on his own to reach his fourth quarterfinal of the season.

In-form-Spaniard Pablo Andújar has levelled his head to head record to 1-1 against Joao Souza through a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the remaining first round match in Munich. The 29-year-old from Cuenca, who reached the final in Barcelona last week, withstood 11 aces to seal victory in one hour and 33 minutes.

Munich’s top-seed Andy Murray will step into singles action on Thursday taking on German qualifier Mischa Zverev. The Scot was omnipresent today at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos signing autographs, having a knock with Dominic Thiem as well as playing his first round doubles match alongside his partner Jean-Julien Rojer. The British-Dutch combination defeated Raven Klaasen and Lukas Rosol 7-5, 6-2 in one hour and 9 minutes.
