Florian Mayer received the final wild card for the main draw of the BMW Open by FWU AG. The 31-year-old German had been sidelined from the courts for more than an entire season due to a pubic bone injury, before he gave his comeback at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo last week, where he defeated Mikhail Youzhny in the opening round but eventually lost to Marin Cilic.
“Florian is a top player, who reached the final here in Munich in 2011. We are happy to able to present him to the fans,” tournament director Patrik Kühnen told. The former world number 18, who dropped to 603rd position in the ATP rankings practices at the TennisBase Oberhaching, very close to Bavaria’s capital. Consequently, Munich will be a home tournament for him.
“I am really looking forward to be back on the tour. It’s great to get this opportunity to play the BMW Open by FWU AG. I am fired up playing in front of the fans here,” Mayer said on Friday.

Advance sale of tickets for the tournament continues well. “The demand for ticket is huge. Quarterfinals on Friday have already been sold out,” organizer Michael Mronz stated. “Munich is looking forward to a week of world class tennis. In terms of players, this is one of the best entry lists in recent years and our wonderful venue is ready to welcome them.”
Top-seed Andy Murray is expected to arrive in Munich on Sunday. He will lead the player’s field including the entire Antlanticlux-team: Gael Monfils, Roberto Bautista-Agut and Fabio Fognini. So far, with Ivo Karlovic only one top 30 players has withdrawn from the entry list.
