ESTORIL, April 29, 2017

The ATP World Tour has returned to the Clube Ténis Estoril for the 2017 Millennium Open, kicking off the tournament with the opening day of the qualifying.

Swedish youngster Elias Ymer headlined Saturday’s action, winning an almost three hours-battle with local wild card Joao Moneiro. The 21-year-old from Stockholm sent down eight aces and capitalized on seven of his 13 break point chances to prevail 7-5, 6-7, 6-4.

Ymer will next play Ernesto Escobedo. The World No. 85 from the United States, top ranked player in the qualifying, also had to work hard, powering past Nicolas Jarry from Chile 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Second seed Andrey Rublev also advanced to the second round. The 19-year-old Russian defeated Sam Groth of Australia 6-2, 7-6. Next up for Rublev will be US-American Bjorn Fratangelo, who beat Enrique López-Pérez from Spain 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Main Draw Is Set

Top seed of the 28-man-main draw will be Pablo Carreno-Busta. After a first round bye, the year-old Spaniard will open his title bid against either fellow countryman Tommy Robredo or Evgeny Donskoy from Russia.

Second favourite Richard Gasquet awaits the winner of the encounter between Carlos Berlocq from Argentina and a qualifier. The tournament’s number three is Gilles Muller of Luxembourg and seeded fourth is David Ferrer, who entered the main draw with a wild card.
