Israel Stays In Davis Cup Group I

Jonathan Erlich and Dudi Sela have secured Israel a spot in Group I of the Davis Cup next year. The tandem beat Isak Arvidsson and Johan Brunstrom 6-4, 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 on Saturday, giving the home team a 3-0 lead over Sweden on Saturday.

On another sunny day at the Canada Stadium in Ramat HaSharon, Erlich and Sela was the more solid team, converting three of their 11 break point chances to finish the encounter after three hours and five minutes.

Israel will take on Portugal in the first round, held from 3 to 5 Febuary 2017. Sweden will be relegated to Group II facing Tunisia to start the new Davis Cup season.

In the other Play-Off tie, the Dominican Republic takes a 2-1 lead over Barbados into Sunday, as Victor Estrella Burgos and José Hernandez-Fernandez defeated Darian King and Haydn Lewis 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 in three hours and four minutes.
