ANTWERP, October 14, 2016

Tommy Robredo  will receive the final wild card into the main draw of the inaugural European Open in Antwerp. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 250 event on Friday.

The Spanish veteran had been sidelined for six months this year with an elbow injury and is still on his comeback trail. Robredo, former number five, underwent surgery in April and returned to the courts in September at the ATP Challenger in Genova. He also received a wild card into the main draw of the Moselle Open in Metz three weeks ago, but lost in the opening round to Jan-Lennard Struff. The 34-year-old from Hostalric gets alongside Steve Darcis and Joris De Loore, the third invitation for the main draw

Belgian youngster Zizou Bergs and Spaniard Pablo Andújar were granted a wild card into the qualifying of the event, held inside the Lotto Arena from 15 to 23 October. Bergs will appear at his very first ATP World tournament. The 17-year-old has mainly competed at junior’s level so far but also played his first matches on the ITF Future Circuit as well as on the ATP Challenger Tour.

The doubles will also see three Belgian wildcards. Steve Darcis and Joris De Loore, who are part of the Davis Cup team, will team up together at the European Open. They will be joined by Kimmer Coppejans, who will build a tandem with NextGen star Taylor Fritz from the United States.
