Fourth seed Hubert Hurkacz, a former world No. 6, was knocked out in straight sets by Italy’s Mattia Bellucci to reach the quarterfinals of the Republica Dominicana Open – Copa Cap Cana. The 24-year-old Italian delivered an impressive performance and stayed focused despite a rain interruption. Bellucci capitalized on five of his 12 break-point chances, sealing a convincing 6–2, 6–4 victory in one hour and 17 minutes.

Third seed Damir Dzumhur, runner-up at the inaugural edition of the tournament, also bowed out after a three-set battle against Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong. The Bosnian claimed the opening set 6–3, but Wong responded by taking the second 6–4. In the deciding set, the lucky loser – who had entered the main draw after falling in the final round of qualifying – earned an early break and cruised to a 6–2 finish to reach the quarterfinals.
Belgium’s Alexander Blockx also advanced after overcoming Czech Dalibor Svrcina in a tightly contested match, winning 7–6(3), 6–7(8), 6–3. Meanwhile, eighth seed Adam Walton of Australia ended the run of Ecuadorian qualifier Andres Andrade 6–4, 6–2 to book his spot in the quarterfinals.
Blockx and Wong are now set to face each other on Friday in the opening match on the main court at the Cap Cana Tennis Village.
Top two seeds advance
Later in the evening, top seed Miomir Kecmanovic opened his title bid with a 6-4, 7-6(4) win over Mackenzie McDonald from the United States. The world No. 58 struck eight aces and won 72 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 31 minutes. Second-seeded Frenchman Valentin Royer beat Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 7-6(5). The encounter lasted two hours and four minutes.
The Republica Dominicana Open – Copa Cap Cana is an ATP Challenger 175 event, offering 175 ranking points to the singles and doubles champions and a total prize purse of $300,000.
