DUBAI, February 25, 2026 (Media Release)
Dedication, determination, and dastardly serves were on display Wednesday morning as more than 90 students and teachers took part in an inclusive Children of Determination tennis clinic alongside Lebanese 2024 Olympic tennis star Benjamin Hassan as part of ATP 500 Week at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
The anticipation began well before Hassan’s arrival as students excitedly changed into their exclusive championship gear. After being escorted to Courts 5 and 6, the children were greeted by 12 volunteers from J.P. Morgan and professional coaches who guided them through tailored warm-ups and friendly rallies designed to teach and improve motor skills.
The children soon found their pace, with the coaches left impressed by the agility and focus on show. Designed to incite an interest in sports among students, the annual tennis clinic provides an opportunity for students to strengthen their interpersonal skills, coordination, and racquet skills in a fun, supportive environment.
Adding to the atmosphere of high-fives and celebrations, students and teachers cheered when Hassan appeared, taking to the court to rally with the students and share some inspirational insights between shots. The first tennis player to represent Lebanon at an Olympic Games, Hassan has also proudly represented Lebanon in Davis Cup action since 2018 and made history as the first player from his country to enter the top 200 in the ATP rankings.
Reflecting on the experience, Hassan said: “This is my first time at this event with Children of Determination and I must say it has been an emotional experience. When you see how determined and full of joy these kids are on court, it really moves you. It’s very important to offer such inclusive opportunities for the students and provide the right resources to hone talent. There’s nothing better than giving kids a reason to smile and I’m happy I was able to be there to witness it and be a part of their joy.”
Every year, Dubai-based organisations supporting children with special needs gather for a special Children of Determination Day during ATP week for an opportunity to promote physical well-being, support their development needs, and celebrate inclusivity in sports. One such organisation is Heroes of Hope, a dedicated sports academy for children and young adults with special needs in the UAE.
Speaking from the courtside, Cassy Gardiner, a volunteer with Heroes of Hope, said: “This is one of the most anticipated events for the students each year. The chance to play on the court with a Tour professional is amazing. What the true standout is though is the spirit of inclusivity. This opportunity is special because it’s a two-way learning experience and gives a chance to the coaches, volunteers, and ball kids to see the kind of value people of determination bring to sports.”
