SAO LEOPOLDO/STARNBERG, February 23, 2026

With just over one month to go before the start of one of the country’s premier professional tennis tournaments, Sao Leopoldo is preparing to welcome national and international visitors for the 2026 Sao Leo Open. The tournament will take place from March 28 to April 5 at the courts of the Sao Leopoldo Tenis Clube.

The competition is an ATP Challenger 75 event will offer a total prize purse of $112,000. The tournament is expected to attract high-level competitors, including players ranked among the world’s top 100, further elevating its status on the international tennis calendar.

The Municipal Government of Sao Leopoldo has been a key supporter of the Sao Leo Open and has emphasized the event’s importance in placing the city on both the national and global sporting map.

“For us, it is a source of pride to host and support an international event like the Sao Leo Open, a tournament that will bring to Rio Grande do Sul players ranked among the top 100 in the world. It is an event that projects São Leopoldo far beyond its borders and showcases the strength of local sport. The entire city benefits from and celebrates this initiative by ALEC, along with the partnership of the Sao Leopoldo Tenis Clube, one of the most traditional clubs in the Metropolitan Region, which continues to consolidate itself as a tennis hub,” said Mayor Heliomar Franco.

Beyond the high-quality action on court, tournament organizers are also preparing a range of side activities for spectators attending the event. Admission to watch the matches at the Sao Leo Open will be free, offering tennis fans a unique opportunity to experience top-level professional competition up close.
