GUIA DE ISORA, February 15, 2026

Two weeks of world-class tennis reached a memorable climax on Sunday as the Tenerife Challenger 2 concluded with a captivating singles final. Beneath clear blue skies and in temperatures well above 20 degrees Celsius, Lloyd Harris rose to the occasion, capturing the title in style and bringing the international fortnight on the island to a fitting close.

The No. 6 seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 event at the Abama Tennis Academy in Guía de Isora outlasted Spanish wild card entry Alejandro Moro Canas 7-5, 7-5.

Harris fired 10 aces and won 80 per cent of his first-service points. The 186th-ranked South African saved all five break points he faced and capitalized on two of his seven break-point opportunities to secure victory in two hours and eight minutes.

“It was a big battle, a very long match in two sets but in the end, I played two fantastic games to break in each set and played all the big points well. That was key today,” said Harris, who lifted his eighth ATP Challenger Tour career trophy, his second in a row after Soma Bay in Egypt last month. He earned €15,510 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points.

Harris was competing in Tenerife for the second time after reaching the semi-finals here in 2023. “My last time here was more challenging, as I was struggling with something and couldn’t play my final match. But the place is beautiful. I really enjoy the tournament and the club, that’s why I am back.”

Getting back to his best tennis

Harris reached a career-high ranking of 31 in September 2021 but has had to deal with numerous injuries in recent years.

“It’s a new career for me, it’s a new start,” he said. “It feels like I am starting a new process from nothing. I prefer not to compare it to the past. It was a younger me and I had to undergo many surgeries. I am just trying to improve day by day now and that’s more important for me.”

During the on-court ceremony, the Dubai resident also spoke about some interesting routines he had with his coach, Gonzalo Vitale, during the week.

“We were a bit superstitious with the restaurants we were going to and things we bought at stores. We stuck to the same routine every day and in the end, we are very happy with it.”

Is there still some time for celebration tonight?

“We have a flight to catch but for sure there will be some time for celebration, maybe a bit on the plane or after. We’ll take it easy tomorrow and soak in the wind before we go on to the next mindset,” Harris stated, before adding about his upcoming schedule.

“I will play in Lille next week and then I will have a week off at home. The family is coming from South Africa, which will be really nice.”

Fognini returns to Tenerife

The atmosphere was already building in the morning when former world No. 9 Fabio Fognini stepped onto the court at the Tenerife Arena for an exhibition match alongside young tennis talents from the Canary Islands.

It’s my second time here in Tenerife, first time off the courts. The experience this year is better than two years ago,” Fognini joked, referring to his second-round loss at the 2024 Tenerife Challenger to Denis Yevseyev in three sets. “The island is perfect for tennis. The weather is beautiful and the climate in February is amazing. It’s great to have this tournament here on the island.”

Duda/Poljak crowned doubles champions

On Saturday, Filip Duda and David Poljak captured the doubles title. The unseeded Czechs defeated Luka Mikrut of Croatia and Tiago Pereira of Portugal 7-6(0), 6-3 in one hour and 21 minutes.

By winning their first team title, Duda and Poljak split €4,540 in prize money and earned 75 ATP Doubles Ranking points.

Final day at Abama

From attending the press conference to performing the ceremonial coin toss before the singles final, Tenerife’s Vice President and Councillor for Tourism, Foreign Action and Institutional Relations, Lope Afonso, took in the very best of tennis in Guía de Isora.

“The finest weeks of tennis here at the Abama Tennis Academy have now come to an end,” he said. “Together with MEF Tennis Events, we have succeeded in organizing two fantastic tournaments while continuing to promote the island through the values of sport. We have also involved young talents from the Canary Islands, who competed in the Challengers and continue to dream of reaching the highest level. These two tournament weeks, combined with the carnival currently taking place across the island, create an exceptional experience for everyone.”

Having become closely connected to the event after watching numerous finals from the stands, the CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, also expressed her delight — particularly following Fabio Fognini’s exhibition match with young Canarian players.

“Tenerife continues to spark emotions through the Challenger tournaments,” she said. “We have enjoyed two weeks of spectacular tennis, once again placing our island on the international tennis map and reinforcing our strategy of strengthening the link between tourism and sport. Our hope is to be back here for the seventh edition in 2027.”
