GUIA DE ISORA/STARNBERG, February 10, 2026
Francesco Maestrelli booked his place in the second round of the Tenerife Challenger 2 being held at the Abama Tennis Academy in Guia de Isora.
Following his run to the final at Tenerife Challenger 1, Maestrelli did not have an easy debut. The Italian was pushed hard by Spanish qualifier Sergio Callejon Hernando and had to come from behind to secure a 4–6, 6–2, 6–4 victory.

“My opponent played a very good match and he deserves credit for that. I’m not completely happy with my performance, but I take the positives and the fact that I fought for every point. Now I want to do better in the next round,” said Maestrelli, who also praised his 20-year-old opponent, who had come through qualifying with wins over Giovanni Fonio and Sergey Fomin. “At the net I asked him his age because I didn’t know him, and he surprised me with his tennis. A year ago this match could have ended differently. Physically and mentally I know I’ve come through a big battle.”
The top seed will next face the winner of the match between Koblenz Tennis Open finalist Tom Gentzsch of Germany and US-American youngster Benjamin Willwerth.
It was a much tougher afternoon for Lorenzo Giustino, who was forced to retire while trailing 6–4, 2–0 against the Tenerife Challenger 1 champion, Spain’s Daniel Merida. Qualifier Gabriele Piraino showed good fighting spirit but was beaten 6–3, 6–4 by former world No. 31 Lloyd Harris.
