GUIA DE ISORA/STARNBERG, February 6, 2026
Stefano Travaglia continued his dominant run at the Tenerife Challenger 1, conceding only 12 games in three matches and sealing a convincing place in the semifinals. In front of a packed Tenerife Arena, the third-seeded Italian defeated Javier Barranco Cosano 6-2, 6-1 at the ATP Challenger 75 event organized by MEF Tennis Events.
Arriving in 2026 with big ambitions, Travaglia has reached the semifinals playing some of his best tennis. The 178th-ranked Italian from Ascoli Piceno, now working with new coach Alessandro Motti, was in full control against the Spaniard to seal victory in one hour and 18 minutes.
“We prepared the match very well, making good use of the rest day,” Travaglia said. “Tennis-wise I felt great, made the right choices and had no dips or drops in energy. I’m really happy.” A finalist in Tenerife in both 2023 and 2024, Travaglia is dreaming big this time. After encouraging signs earlier in the season, reaching the third round of Australian Open qualifying and the quarterfinals in Manama, this first semifinal of 2026 confirms his strong start to the year. “We had a five-week preseason. Physically I felt good, even if not 100 percent at first. Here in Tenerife, with a few more matches under my belt, I’ve started very well. I know these courts well: for a hard-court surface they’re not too fast, and they suit my game.”
Travaglia will next face second seed Daniel Merida, who delivered a ruthless performance to beat last year’s finalist Alejandro Moro Canas in an all-Spanish affair 6-0, 6-2. In the top half of the draw, top seed Francesco Maestrelli kept his title bid on track with a solid 6-4, 6-4 victory over fifth seed George Loffhagen. There was no joy for Lorenzo Giustino, who was stopped by Spanish wild card entry Pol Martin Tiffon 6-4, 7-6(4).
