SAN DIEGO, January 8, 2026 (Media Release)

Co-Tournament Directors Ryan Redondo and Jesse Steinberg have announced the men’s player field for the $177,000 San Diego Open professional tennis tournament scheduled for Monday, January 26 through Sunday, February 1 at Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, California.

Defending men’s singles champion Eliot Spizzirri headlines an impressive field of professional tennis stars for this year’s 100-level ATP Challenger tournament. The 24-year-old Spizzirri, a native of Greenwich. Conn., captured last year’s San Diego Open singles title after defeating fellow American Mackenzie McDonald 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the final.

Spizzirri played collegiate tennis at the University of Texas and was the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Player of the Year in 2023 and 2024. He is currently ranked No. 89 in the ATP singles rankings after reaching a career-high No. 87 last November.

La Jolla, Calif., native Zachary Svajda has also entered the 2026 San Diego Open. The 23-year-old Svajda, who turned pro in 2019, has won six career ATP Challenger singles titles. He is currently ranked No. 142 in the ATP singles rankings after reaching a career-high No. 102 in 2024.

Svajda’s younger brother, Trevor Svajda, will also compete in the 2026 San Diego Open. The 19-year-old Svajda currently plays collegiate tennis for Southern Methodist University and was runner-up in the 2025 NCAA Championships men’s singles final. He also competes on the ATP Challenger Circuit and is ranked a career-high No. 383 in the ATP singles rankings.

The men’s player field also includes current University of San Diego tennis star Oliver Tarvet. The 22-year-old senior from Great Britain earned ITA All-American honors in 2024 and 2025. Last summer, Tarvet received a wild card into the Wimbledon qualifying singles draw. He won three matches to advance to the main draw where he fell to current World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in the second-round 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.

Tarvet, who also competed on the ATP Challenger Circuit last year, is currently ranked at a career-high No. 331 in the ATP singles rankings.
