ATHENS/STARNBERG, December 1, 2025
Michael Geerts completed the week of his life in Athens, leaving the Greek capital with trophies in both singles and doubles at the ITC Athens Challenger held at OAKA Stadion Sports Center, home of the 2004 Olympic Tennis Event.
In Sunday’s singles final, the 30-year-old Belgian defeated top seed and World No. 201 Arthur Fery of Great Britain 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 to capture the first ATP Challenger title of his career. It was a fitting finish to a tournament in which Geerts was flawless from start to finish, having already won the doubles championship the day before alongside Spain’s Alberto Barroso Campos.
Geerts capitalized on six of his nine break-point opportunities to secure victory in two hours and four minutes. He earned €7,530 in prize money as well as 50 ATP Ranking points.

The victory capped off a successful return of Challenger tennis to Athens after a 13-year absence. The matches were staged at OAKA’s newly renovated tennis complex, the Stadion Sports Center, with free admission welcoming spectators throughout the week.
This event also marked the seventh ATP Challenger tournament organized in Greece this year by ITC (International Tennis Coaching) under the direction of Apostolos Tsitsipas. Following six tournaments at Lyttos Beach in Crete, the Athens stop further solidified Greece’s re-established presence on the ATP Challenger Tour. From March until now, seven different tournaments have offered Greek tennis players valuable opportunities, visibility, and competitive experience on home soil.
