HAMBURG, October 25, 2025
Sunday’s men’s final at the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup will be a battle between two 18-year-olds, both eyeing their maiden triumph on the ATP Challenger Tour, when Justin Engel will take on Federico Cina.
Engel delighted his home crowd at the venue of the Hamburger Tennis-Verband again with his fighting spirit and another solid performance. The No. 4 seed battled past seventh-seeded Spaniard Alejandro Moro Canas 7-6(3), 6-4 in one hour and 47 minutes.

“I think you could see how exhausting it was. Everyone knows the Spaniards are tough to play — they run for every point. It’s incredible,” said Engel shortly after reaching his first final on the Challenger Circuit, visibly exhausted after winning his sixth tiebreak in a row.
“That’s obviously very important. I always have a good start, and with the fans behind me, it gives me an extra boost,” emphasized Engel, adding: “I have a huge home advantage here, and I feel like it’s getting louder with every round.”
Later in the afternoon, Cina defeated fifth favourite George Loffhagen from Great Britain 7-6(5), 6-4. The No. 6 seed from Italy withstood 11 aces and broke his rival’s serve three times to prevail after one hour and 35 minutes.
Engel and Cina will meet for the first time.
Geerts & Ruehl triumph in doubles
Earlier in the day, Michael Geerts and Tim Ruehl captured the doubles title. The Belgian-German combination defeated No. 2 seeds Milos Karol from Slovakia and Patrik Niklas-Salminen of Finland 7-6(6), 7-5 in one hour and 35 minutes.
“We played at a good level and it was fun on court today, as we had a couple of intense rallies. We played more consistently in the decisive phases today. That made the difference,” Ruehl told Tennis TourTalkafter the final.
“It was a positive week here in Hamburg. We had a tough draw but managed to fight our way through to the final.”
Ruehl and Geerts claimed their second team title after their triumph at the Dutch Open Tournament in Bunschoten. They split €2,680 in prize money and earned 50 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
