Medvedev earned his 21st career ATP Tour title in his 21st country and his first in more than two years. It had been 882 days since the Russian last lifted a trophy, but that drought is now over. The 28-year-old seized his opportunities when it mattered most, sealing a hard-fought victory and a triumphant return to the winner’s circle in Almaty.
“To win feels amazing,” said Medvedev. “And it means that in the most important points of the match I managed to play good. The last game was actually incredible, and I’m happy to win the title.
“It continues my funny story of 21 titles in 21 cities, so I’m very happy about it.”
The World No. 14 earned $160,550 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points.
“I want to thank my family, my beautiful wife, my two daughters. It is the first time I have been at a tournament with my two daughters and wife together, so to get a title is really nice,” Medvedev said during the trophy ceremony. “I honour this title to my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her, so this one is for Victoria.”
