WUHAN, October 6, 2025 (Press Release)

The stars will be out in force on Day Two of the DONGFENG • YOYAH WUHAN OPEN, where former World No. 1s Iga Swiatek and Naomi Osaka will kick off their tournaments. Also in action are 2021 U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu and 18-year-old two-time WTA 1000 winner Mirra Andreeva.

Six-time Grand Slam champion Swiatek is set to make her tournament debut at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center against Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic. Swiatek is hoping to close out the WTA-1000 season with a fourth title of the year and second at the tour’s top level. After winning Wimbledon this summer, she also captured her 11th WTA 1000 title at the Cincinnati Open.

Osaka returns to Wuhan for the first time since her tournament debut in 2017. She faces Leylah Fernandez in the first match of the day on Center Court. It will be their first meeting since the Canadian toppled her in three sets at the 2021 US Open. Osaka is currently ranked at No. 16, her highest WTA ranking since returning from giving birth to her first daughter Shai in 2023 and has won 11 of her last 14 matches.

The second match on Center Court will feature Raducanu in a tournament debut for the former US Open champion. The British star, whose mother hails from Shenyang in northeastern China, will play her first match of the tournament against the USA’s Ann Li, with the winner to play ninth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Closing out the day session on Center Court will be Chinese wild card Shuai Zhang against 14th seed Emma Navarro.

Amanda Anisimova has been forced to withdraw from the tournament with a left calf injury, which troubled her during her run to the WTA 1000 China Open title last week. “After playing through some pain in Beijing, I need time to recover,” said the Wimbledon and US Open finalist. “I’m sad I won’t be in Wuhan this year but I’ll be back next year.”

Monday’s opening day of Main Draw play saw a three-set win for Australian rising star Maya Joint over local favourite Lin Zhu, setting up a second round match with Katerina Siniakova. There were mixed fortunes for the two Chinese players headlining the evening session in Wuhan, with wildcard Yue Yuan beating Lucia Bronzetti 7-6(2) 7-6(1) but Xinyu Wang, who was a semi-finalist last year, losing 6-4 7-6(3) to Moyuka Uchijima. Uchijima, from Japan, plays third seed Coco Gauff next.
