QUITO/STARNBERG, October 3, 2025
Ecuador will host its first-ever professional women’s tennis tournament on the WTA Tour, following official approval and inclusion in the international competition calendar by the Women’s Tennis Association.
The event, a WTA 125, will take place from December 1–7 on the clay courts of the Quito Tennis and Golf Club, with $115,000 in prize money at stake. The champion will earn 125 WTA ranking points, while the runner-up will receive 81 points.
The tournament, officially named the COPA BANCO GUAYAQUIL WTA 125 de Quito, is organized by Nicolas Lapentti. A press conference is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, at Banco Guayaquil’s headquarters in Quito, where Lapentti and executives from the bank—the event’s main sponsor—will share further details.
The field is expected to include several Top 100 players, many of whom already compete in Grand Slam events and other top-level tournaments.
In addition, the Copa Banco Guayaquil WTA 125 will provide an invaluable opportunity for Ecuadorian professionals and aspiring junior players to showcase their talent and gain experience on home soil.
