CURITIBA/STARNBERG, October 2, 2025
The young Brazilian talent Joao Eduardo Schiessl, 21, is the latest player from Parana confirmed in the main draw of the Copa Internacional de Tenis – Year III, an ATP Challenger 75 tournament to be held from October 13 to 19 on the clay courts of Graciosa Country Club in Curitiba. The athlete received a wild card from the organizers to compete in the biggest tennis event staged in Parana this season.
Part of Didier Rayon’s training team in Curitiba, Schiessl earned his first professional ranking points at just 17 years old at an ITF World Tennis Tour event in Recife. Since then, he has collected three singles titles on the Pro Circuit and three doubles crowns, steadily establishing himself as one of the rising stars of Brazilian tennis. Now, he will have the opportunity to play in front of his home crowd, alongside fellow Paranaense standout and former World No. 58 Thiago Seyboth Wild.
“Playing such a big tournament at home is an incredible opportunity that I’m going to make the most of and give my best,” Schiessl said. “It’s always special to compete where the people who support me and my friends—who usually can’t watch me play—will be there. Those who are with me day to day and don’t travel will have a whole week to see me on court. Having them close, even if it’s just once a year, makes a huge difference for me.”
The main draw will also features home favourite Thiago Monteiro, along with several international standouts, including three top 100 players: Juan Manuel Cerundolo (Argentina, World No. 71), Emilio Nava (USA, No. 90), and Thiago Agustin Tirante (Argentina, No. 99).
With total prize money of $100,000 and 75 ATP Ranking points on offer for the champion, the Copa Internacional de Tenis has established itself as one of the most important events on the Parana tennis calendar. Entry is free, with tickets available the day before each match at appticket.com.br/ecp.
