Martin Landaluce made history at the Co’Met Orleans Open by becoming the first Spaniard to lift the singles trophy of the ATP Challenger Tour 125 event in France. The 19-year-old captured his second Challenger career title on Sunday with a determined 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-3 victory over top seed Raphael Collignon of Belgium in two hours and 19 minutes.

Landaluce, who withstood 11 aces from the Belgian, broke serve three times and grew stronger as the match progressed to complete the comeback. The win marks another milestone in the former US Open junior champion’s fast-rising professional career.

“It has been an amazing week at an amazing tournament. It’s different when you come here, as it’s such a nice place. Thanks to all the spectators being here all week,” Landaluce said during the on-court ceremony. The Madrid native earned €25,740 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points.

“I don’t have any particular goals. I just want to keep pushing together with my team. We have been working so hard and it’s all about improving every day. That’s the most important thing,” Landaluce added.

Frenchmen triumph in doubles

The doubles title stayed in French hands. Long-time friends Clement Chideck and Luca Sanchez defeated compatriots Theo Arribage and Joshua Paris 6-4, 6-2 in just over an hour to claim their first Challenger team title, a dream scenario for the pair, who had long hoped to win a tournament together.
