The main draw ceremony for the Chengdu Open 2025 was held this afternoon, unveiling the tournament path for players as they kick off the Asian Swing at the Sichuan International Tennis Center.

Top seed and last year’s finalist Lorenzo Musetti, making his third consecutive appearance in Chengdu, headlines the top half of the draw alongside third seed Tallon Griekspoor, sixth seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, and seventh seed Sebastian Baez. In the bottom half, second seed Luciano Darderi is joined by fourth seed Brandon Nakashima, fifth seed Cameron Norrie, and eighth seed Lorenzo Sonego.

With the top four seeds receiving first-round byes, attention will turn to the remaining seeds and wild cards when main draw play begins on Wednesday. Among them, Hong Kong rising star Coleman Wong, one of three wild cards for this year’s tournament, drew an ideal first-round matchup against a qualifier.

The 21-year-old has quickly risen from promising junior to national trailblazer, notably defeating Ben Shelton at the Miami Masters in March to reach the third round. Wong also made history at the US Open, becoming the first man from Hong Kong to qualify for a Grand Slam main draw in the Open Era—and the first to win a match at a major singles event.

“I don’t know yet who my opponent will be, but I’m really excited to be here. The tournament looks fantastic and I’m very grateful for this wild card,” said Wong, who arrives in Chengdu fresh from leading Hong Kong to a stunning 3-1 Davis Cup victory over fifth-seeded Uzbekistan on Sunday.

Local wild cards Shang Juncheng and Zhou Yi face tougher challenges. Defending champion Shang, aiming to rebound from an injury-hit season, meets in-form Belgian Zizou Bergs, who has reached a career-high No.46 after two Tour-level finals earlier this year and the third round of the US Open last month. Meanwhile, Zhou faces fifth seed Norrie in a challenging opener.

Other intriguing first-round matchups include Frenchman Terence Atmane against Croatian NextGen contender Dino Prizmic, meeting for the first time on Tour, and evergreen 39-year-old Gael Monfils launching his campaign against 24-year-old Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko, who defeated Monfils in their only previous meeting at the 2023 Phoenix Challenger.

All eight first-round qualifying matches are scheduled for tomorrow, marking the official start of the Chengdu Open 2025. Fans can also look forward to the debut of this year’s exciting new highlight—the ACE Carnival—which commences tomorrow and will run concurrently at the Sichuan International Tennis Center.

Li Na, General Manager of Chengdu Sports Events Industry Development Co., Ltd., who attended the singles main draw ceremony, highlighted the significance of the carnival.

“At the ACE Carnival, players and fans will enjoy a range of experiences, including an intangible cultural heritage exhibition, local culinary delights, and modern cultural activities. The carnival is a key feature of the Chinese Tennis Season, launched by the Chinese Tennis Association on August 20, and will be a major highlight of the season,” said Li.
