The Spanish MAPFRE Tennis Team completed its first training session on Tuesday on the Centre Court of the Club de Tenis Puente Romano in Marbella, where it will face Denmark this weekend in the second round of the 2025 Davis Cup Qualifiers.

Jaume Munar and Roberto Carballes Baena were the first players on court, while Pedro Martinez Portero and Pablo Carreno Busta trained later in the afternoon under the guidance of captain David Ferrer and assistant coach Marc Lopez.

“In this first session all four players who will be competing have already trained and I’m happy with the good atmosphere,” Ferrer said after the opening day.

The captain also addressed the team’s last-minute withdrawals: “Obviously they are important absences, but it’s something we have to accept and focus on the present and the weekend ahead. Even so, I think we have a very good team to get through the tie.”

Jaume Munar will lead Spain as its No. 1 player in a week in which he celebrates his career-high ranking of World No. 37. “He’s having an outstanding year, has made a big jump in his level and that’s reflected in his ranking. It’s also the first time he’s reached the round of 16 at a Grand Slam. You can see his confidence and maturity to be ready for everything, both singles and doubles,” Ferrer highlighted.

The Spanish captain underlined the clay surface and home crowd as key factors. “We believe we adapt better to clay than the Danish players, but nowadays everyone plays well on every surface. Even so, we’ve chosen a surface that can make our rivals more uncomfortable, and we hope the crowd will support us because playing at home is always an advantage,” he concluded.
