AUGSBURG/STARNBERG, July 31, 2025

The fourth edition of the Schwaben Open by Great2Stay returns to the picturesque venue of the Tennis Club Augsburg from August 17 to 23, 2025, once again promising a dynamic mix of established stars and promising talents from the international tennis circuit. German fans in particular can look forward to appearances by Davis Cup players Maximilian Marterer and Cedrik-Marcel Stebe, as well as teenage prospect Diego Dedura, who made his breakthrough at the tournament last year. Among the international field will be defending champion Timofey Skatov of Kazakhstan.

Marterer and Stebe on the Comeback Trail

Both Marterer (ATP No. 348) and Stebe (ATP No. 889) are on the road back to top form after injury layoffs. The 30-year-old Marterer from Nuremberg recently qualified for the main draw at Roland Garros, following his key Davis Cup win for Germany in February that helped the team reach the group stage in Japan. Stebe, 34, made his return after nearly two years on the sidelines, claiming his first international title since his comeback at an ITF Word Tennis Tour event in Kamen. Stebe famously kept Germany in the Davis Cup World Group in 2012 with a dramatic win over former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt.

Dedura Returns to Site of Breakthrough

Berlin native Diego Dedura (ATP No. 350), who stunned former World No. 10 Denis Shapovalov at the BMW Open in Munich earlier this year, will look to build on his momentum in Augsburg. The 17-year-old made headlines last year by securing a main-draw win on the ATP Challenger Tour at the Schwaben Open, marking a major step in his young career.

Negritu, Zahraj and Topo Among German Contenders

Several top German players are also among the tournament’s leading contenders. Stuttgart’s Christopher Negritu (ATP No. 267), who first broke into a Challenger main draw in Augsburg in 2023, is now on the verge of Grand Slam qualifying rounds. Patrick Zahraj (ATP No. 270), a 26-year-old from Hesse, turned pro after completing a college career and claimed the German National Championship singles title in 2023. Marko Topo (ATP No. 272), originally from Gräfelfing, will be hoping for his first win in Augsburg on his third attempt after falling to eventual finalist Elmer Moller in last year’s opening round.

Skatov Aims to Defend His Title

Timofey Skatov (ATP No. 305) returns to defend his Schwaben Open title but will face a strong field of international challengers. Among them are Peru’s clay-court specialist Gonzalo Bueno (ATP No. 294), Spaniard Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo (ATP No. 302), and Italy’s Jacopo Berrettini (ATP No. 319), the younger brother of former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini.

Tomorrow’s Stars Set for Spotlight

The tournament will also feature several standout young players who previously excelled in junior tennis. Croatia’s Mili Poljicak (ATP No. 277), 21, captured the Wimbledon boys’ singles title in 2022. Bolivia’s Juan Carlos Angelo Prado (ATP No. 258), now 20, topped the junior world rankings and heads the entry list in Augsburg. Czech talent Hynek Barton (ATP No. 297), 21, claimed the 2022 ITF German Juniors title in Bamberg. The youngest among them is 18-year-old Czech Jan Kumstat (ITF Juniors No. 23), who reached the Australian Open junior final in 2024 and climbed as high as No. 3 in the junior world rankings. He will enter the Schwaben Open main draw through his junior ranking.
