HAGEN/STARNBERG, July 30, 2025
Day four of the Platzmann Open 2025 delivered a full schedule of top-tier tennis at TC Rot-Weiß Hagen, with German Davis Cup player Yannick Hanfmann headlining the evening session in dramatic fashion.
In the featured match of the day, Hanfmann thrilled a packed Centre Court with a come-from-behind victory over Kazakhstan’s Timofey Skatov. After a shaky start and a slew of early errors, the 32-year-old from Karlsruhe gradually settled into the match. Drawing energy from the home crowd, he turned the tide and eventually clinched a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(6) win after two and a half hours.
Following the emotional victory, Hanfmann thanked the fans for their support, stating: “Without your energy, there’s no way I could have turned that match around.”
Earlier in the day, Jan Choinski became the first player to book a spot in the quarterfinal of the ATP Challenger Tour event. The fifth-seeded Brit, who was born in Koblenz, battled past Kazakhstan’s Dmitry Popko in a physical three-set encounter, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Second seed Vilius Gaubas of Lithuania delivered a composed performance to defeat Austria’s Joel Schwaerzler 6-4, 6-2, while Swedish qualifier Olle Wallin continued his run with a 6-4, 6-3 win over France’s Clement Tabur.
