SANTA PONCA, July 29, 2025 (Mallorca Country Club Press Release)

What happens when two of basketball’s greatest minds swap hardwood for grass, clay and padel courts? At Mallorca Country Club, the answer was clear: a week of world-class sport, sun-drenched fun, and friendships that extend well beyond the baseline.

Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash, both icons of the NBA, spent the past week with their families enjoying the unique atmosphere of the Santa Ponça-based club, where they were officially welcomed as Honorary Members in recognition of their sporting legacy and shared values with MCC: community, quality of life, and a deep love of sport.

Their certificates were handed over by Sabine Lisicki, Wimbledon finalist and longtime friend of both athletes, who is also an Honorary Member of the club. Throughout the week, the trio could be spotted rallying on the club’s courts, mixing casual competition with relaxed camaraderie. Their children, meanwhile, took part in the club’s Kids’ Summer Camp – a reminder that at MCC, sport is as much a family affair as it is a lifestyle.

On Friday, 25 July, Nowitzki, Nash, and their wives joined Lisicki on the clay for a light-hearted hitting session. While the mood was easygoing, Lisicki’s professional insight added a competitive edge to the fun, with a few insider tips shared between laughs.

Then came Sunday’s grand finale: a padel match that brought together Nowitzki, Nash, Lisicki, Jürgen Klopp, and Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem. The tone was playful, but the talent on court unmistakable. After the final point was played, the group retired to the club terrace to recover, exchange stories, and enjoy a long, laughter-filled afternoon under the Mallorcan sun.

The friendly gathering with Jürgen Klopp, co-founder of Padel FC, also gave a glimpse into the future: Padel FC and Mallorca Country Club are currently preparing an exciting collaboration, with plans to expand padel offerings and create new experiences for members and guests alike.

“We had a great time this week, it’ been a fantastic atmosphere with great people and a lot of fun. We hope to be back soon”, said Nowitzki. “We have been playing tennis on grass courts and clay courts, we even played some padel. It’s a wonderful place, even to take a Cappuccino or “cerveza”’, added Nash.

Both athletes expressed their intention to return regularly with their families, drawn by MCC’s balance of world-class facilities and laid-back Mediterranean charm.

And while the applause may be quieter than in the arenas where their legends were made, it’s safe to say that on the courts of Mallorca, Nowitzki and Nash are right at home
