Luciano Darderi has captured the title of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open in Umag. The No. 2 seed of the ATP 250 clay-court event defeated first-time finalist Carlos Taberner of Spain 6-3, 6-3 in Saturday evening’s singles final.

In rainy conditions in Istria, Darderi dominated most of the baseline rallies. He sent down seven aces and won 87 per cent of his first-service points to succeed in one hour and 26 minutes.

Darderi captured his second consecutive title on the ATP Tour following his triumph at the Nordea Open in Bastad, Sweden last week. By winning his fourth ATP Tour career title, the World No. 46 earned € 90,675 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points.

“It’s something special winning two titles within two weeks, it’s crazy,” said Darderi, who became the fourth Italian to clinch the title in Umag after Fabio Fognini (2016), Marco Cecchinato (2018) and Jannik Sinner (2022).

“I am very happy about my performance. My tennis was incredible this week. I having a bit of rest now and will try to continue like this on the hard courts.”
