TODI/STARNBERG, July 22, 2025
One of Italy’s longest-running ATP Challenger tournaments is back. From August 10 to 16, the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Todi | CERgo Tennis Cup will welcome fans and players for the 17th edition of the Challenger 75 clay-court event. Held at the scenic Tennis Club Todi 1971, the tournament has become a key fixture on the ATP Challenger Tour, previously hosting future stars such as Carlos Alcaraz and Luciano Darderi.
The 2024 edition saw young Italian Pierluigi Basile claim his first match win at Challenger level, while this year’s field will once again be headlined by defending champion Carlos Taberner, currently ranked No. 111 in the world.
Major upgrades at the historic club
This year marks a significant transformation for the Tennis Club Todi 1971, thanks to joint investments by MEF Tennis Events and the City of Todi. The upgrades were made to align with the ATP’s elevated infrastructure standards.
“We’ve come a long way since 2007,” said Marcello Marchesini, CEO of MEF Tennis Events. “Over 18 years, we’ve hosted 17 ATP Challenger editions, 5 ITF Women’s Circuit events, national championships, and even a Serie A1 final. Legends like Medvedev, Alcaraz, Musetti, and Sonego have played here. This year, we’re unveiling a new gym, a players’ lounge, and a brand-new clay court—investments that would not have been possible without the city’s support.”
A proud partnership with the city
The tournament continues to enjoy the strong support of the City of Todi and its mayor, Antonino Ruggiano, who reflected on the journey: “Eighteen years ago, we had enthusiasm but no idea that we’d still be here nearly two decades later, celebrating Italian tennis on such a stage. The passion generated by players like Jannik Sinner has created national excitement, second only to football. That Carlos Alcaraz once competed on our courts makes us immensely proud. We are ready for the 2025 edition, knowing it will boost both local pride and Todi’s international image.”
CERgo becomes new title sponsor
Sustainability meets sport in 2025 as CERgo, a renewable energy community initiative, joins as title sponsor.
“We want to promote green energy production and usage at the local level,” said Salvatore Micoli, CERgo co-founder. “Partnering with MEF Tennis Events started with padel and is now growing through tennis. Todi and Foligno host two of our key energy facilities. We believe tennis can help us spread this vital message about clean energy.”
Stacked entry list for 2025
Alongside Carlos Taberner, several high-profile names are set to compete. Swiss No. 145 Jerome Kym, a rising star with two Challenger titles and a recent ATP 250 quarterfinal in Gstaad, will be the second seed. Italy will be well represented with Federico Arnaboldi, Stefano Travaglia (Challenger Modena winner), and Marco Cecchinato (Challenger Milan champion) also in the draw.
Not to be overlooked is Federico Coria, brother of Argentine great Guillermo Coria, and owner of six ATP Challenger titles.
