MUNGIA/LAUKARIZ/STARNBERG, June 22, 2025
Inaki Montes-De La Torre from Spain claimed victory at the 4th Open Laukariz, held from June 16 to 22 at the Club de Campo Laukariz in Mungia, Bizkaia, in the Basque Country, Spain.
The No. 2 seed of the ITF World Tennis Tour M15 indoor clay-court event defeated Marcel Zielinksi of Poland 6-4, 6-4 in the final. For the 22-year-old Montes-De La Torre, the win marked his fourth career title on the Pro Circuit, his second at Mungia after 2022 and a return to form at a venue that holds deep personal significance.
“Laukariz is a special place for me,” said Montes-De La Torre after lifting the trophy. “I’m close to home, I feel really comfortable here, and the treatment I receive is spectacular. Three years ago, I won my first professional title here. The following year didn’t go well—I lost to a rival who played much better than me—and last year I couldn’t compete due to injury, although I still came to support my teammates.”
Now fully recovered, Montes-De La Torre made a triumphant return to the courts where his professional journey began. “It couldn’t have gone any better,” he said. “It’s clear I’ve evolved in several aspects of my game since I won here in 2022. Although injuries held me back, now that I’m healthy, I’m serving better, playing with more confidence, and taking a more aggressive approach—coming to the net more, while still relying on my base of fighting and counterattacking. I’m working hard to improve my offensive game and trying to bring what I’m practicing into my matches.”
