Germany’s top tennis player Alexander Zverev (28, ATP No. 3) has arrived at the 32nd edition of the TERRA WORTMANN OPEN, marking ten years since his debut at the prestigious ATP 500 grass-court event. Tournament director Ralf Weber officially welcomed Zverev on Sunday evening, shortly after the German had traveled directly from Stuttgart following his runner-up finish there.

“I wish Sascha all the best for his start here with us,” said Weber. “Maybe this will finally be the year he wins his first title on grass.”

The TERRA WORTMANN OPEN has long been a family affair for Team Zverev, with close relatives often joining him in Halle. “We always feel incredibly comfortable here,” said Zverev. “Besides competing on the court, I also get the chance to relax a little bit on the golf course.”

Zverev is now embarking on his ninth attempt to lift the title in Halle, ten years after his first appearance. Early in his career, he reached the final twice—losing to Roger Federer in 2016 and to fellow German Florian Mayer in 2017. In more recent years, he made back-to-back semifinal appearances in 2023 and 2024.

His tournament debut in 2015 was a memorable one, even in defeat, as he fell to big-serving Croatian Ivo Karlovic in the round of 16. The then 18-year-old Zverev faced a barrage of 21 aces from Karlovic, known for his fearsome serve.

“I will keep trying to win this important title here in Halle,” Zverev emphasized.
