STUTTGART, June 14, 2025
Alexander Zverev is just one win away from claiming his first grass-court title after securing a hard-fought victory over Ben Shelton from the United States in the semi-finals of the BOSS Open in Stuttgart on Saturday.
The top-seeded German delivered a composed and powerful performance to come through 7-6(8), 7-6(1) in a tightly contested, serve-dominated match at the ATP 250 event. Zverev fired 36 winners and did not face a single break point, booking his place in a third career final on grass, following previous runs to the final in Halle in 2016 and 2017.

“I’m super happy to be in the final, it’s my first grass-court final since 2017,” said Zverev. “It’s been eight years. I actually really like playing on the surface. I’m happy to be in the final in Germany again, I’m looking forward to it.”
In addition to the winner’s cheque of €114,335 and 250 ATP Ranking points, Sunday’s final offers Zverev the chance to claim his 25th career ATP Tour title — and to become the first German to triumph at the Tennis Club Weissenhof since Michael Stich won on clay back in 1991.
Fritz edges out Auger-Aliassime
Earlier in the day, No. 2 seed Taylor Fritz secured his first tour-level final appearance since last November with a 6-4, 7-6(5) win over Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. After a challenging clay-court season that saw him post a 3-4 record and slip three places to World No. 7 in the ATP Rankings, the US-American has bounced back strongly in Stuttgart, reaching the final without dropping a set.
“The clay-court season wasn’t the best for me, so I came here more motivated to start the grass season off well,” said Fritz. “I’m super happy that I’ve been able to start it off with a final.
“I’m locked in and ready to go. Once I start winning a couple of matches on grass and start feeling good, all the other things start clicking for me.”
