POZNAN/STARNBERG, May 9, 2025
Karol Drzewiecki is enjoying the most successful stretch of his professional career. The Polish doubles specialist broke into the Top 100 for the first time, made his Grand Slam debut, and represented Poland in Davis Cup. Alongside Piotr Matuszewski, he won four ATP Challenger Tour titles last season—and the pair has already claimed two more this year.
Despite that success, the Grunwald Poznan player is turning a new page. Drzewiecki has confirmed his participation in this year’s ATP Enea Poznan Open (June 15–21, 2025), but he will appear with a new partner on court.
Currently ranked a career-high No. 83 in the ATP Doubles Rankings, Drzewiecki is teaming up with Romanian Victor Cornea, who sits just outside the Top 100.
“I’ll now be playing doubles with Victor Cornea from Romania, who’s ranked 104. And with Piotr, we’ll try to qualify for Roland Garros,” Drzewiecki said. “The tournament in Estoril, where we just played, was the last one that counted for Grand Slam qualifying rankings. If we manage to get in, those will be our last matches together. Of course, we might return to playing as a team again in the future, but for now, we’ll go our separate ways on tour.”
The announcement may come as a surprise, considering the duo’s recent success. But for Drzewiecki, it’s about exploring new opportunities.
“I won’t hide it—these have been very successful months and by far the best year of my career,” he admitted. “If not for injuries—mine and Piotr’s—it could’ve been even better. We both made ranking progress, played lots of great tournaments, and I debuted in a Grand Slam. But now we’ll try something different. Some fresh energy, new challenges. We’re not saying we’ll never play together again.”

Drzewiecki spent the first weekend of May in Estoril, Portugal, reaching the ATP Challenger 175 quarterfinals with Matuszewski. He had planned to return to Poland briefly, but changed course and flew directly to Rome, where he will partner with Cornea in his next event.
His upcoming schedule includes Internazionali di Tennis Francavilla al Mare, followed by an ATP 175 event in either Turin or Porto. After a short break, he hopes to compete at Roland Garros and will then return to Poland for the Enea Poznan Open.
“I love playing in Poland, especially in Poznan,” he said. “I love our fans, I enjoy connecting with them, and I really feel their support. The atmosphere at Park Tenisowy Olimpia is exceptional. So yes, I confirm that I’ll be playing in Poznan again this year.”
Last year, Drzewiecki and Matuszewski reached the quarterfinals in Poznan before losing to eventual champions Orlandu Luz and Marcelo Zormann of Brazil.
His appearance this year holds special meaning. During the tournament, Drzewiecki will team up with fellow Polish pro Szymon Walkow for a charity exhibition match. The match was auctioned off in support of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP), one of Poland’s largest philanthropic events.
“We’ll spend some time with the people who won the auction, train together, share our knowledge and skills, and play a fun exhibition match,” Drzewiecki confirmed with a smile.
