VIENNA, May 8, 2025
After four years at the Heumarkt tennis tent, the Erste Bank Open is entering a new era with the Marx Halle debuting this year as a second tournament venue alongside the main location at Wiener Stadthalle. This move signals a bold step toward the tournament’s long-term future, with the Wien Holding Arena in Neu Marx set to become its permanent home upon completion in 2030.
“With this new venue, we’re continuing the evolution of the Erste Bank Open and symbolically taking the first step toward the future Wien Holding Arena,” said tournament director Herwig Straka. “The Marx Halle will offer exciting new opportunities for players and fans alike, elevating the overall tournament experience to a new level.”
Three courts will be installed inside Marx Halle, including two match courts—#glaubandich Court and Fairplay Court—and one designated for practice. This brings the total number of courts available during the Erste Bank Open to seven: two at Wiener Stadthalle, three at Marx Halle, and two more at Tenniszentrum La Ville.
“The increased court capacity means players can book more and longer practice slots,” added Straka. “With the expansion to Marx Halle, we’re enlarging the entire tournament area and aligning with an international trend. We’re opening a brand-new tennis ‘Ground’ there, aiming to attract new audiences.”
The term “Ground” is a deliberate nod to the Grand Slam model, such as at Wimbledon, where Ground Tickets are highly sought after. Similarly, fans will be able to purchase Ground Tickets for the second venue at the Erste Bank Open at a daily rate of €25, granting access to the grounds and side-court matches. Ticket information is available at www.erstebank-open.com.
The Marx Halle experience is designed to be more than just spectating. An interactive entertainment zone will provide visitors with hands-on activities and fun. Highlights include a padel court, mini court, diverse culinary offerings, and a live DJ creating a vibrant event atmosphere.
On the sporting side, a key highlight will be the hosting of an international wheelchair tennis tournament, held in close cooperation with win2day. Austrian wheelchair tennis star Nico Langmann will compete on the Fairplay Court. Additionally, a youth tournament will give emerging young talents the chance to compete in a professional setting as part of the Erste Bank Open program.
