Maximilian Marterer took his second ITF Future career title within two weeks winning the final of the eleventh edition of the SEGRO International in Kaarst 7-6, 6-4 against third-seeded Czech Marek Michalicka.

In front of about 500 spectators, the only 18-year-old German was the dominant player through powerful service games and hard hitting baseline shots. Michalicka answered with good footwork as well as solid groundstrokes but Marterer gained an early break in the decider of the opening set and the German world number 465 took the first set winning the tie-break 7-5.

The beginning of the second frame remained an even affair until Marterer converted his chance to get the decisive break in the seventh game. The teenager from Nuremberg defended the advantage until the end of the match taking his second title on the ITF Future Circuit after he had claimed his first trophy in Stuttgart-Stammheim seven days ago.

“We have a couple of good youngster in Germany like Zverev and Altmeier. In terms of ranking, I would like to be within the top-250 by the end of this year,” Marterer told after the match. “He was simply better than me today,” Michalicka had to admit.

Both players will stay in Germany in order to play the last of four Future tournaments taking place in the European country in the early stage of the year. Maybe there will be another chance for Marterer to gain a third title, this time at the US-$ 15.000 event in Nussloch starting on Monday.
