PORTO ALEGRE/STARNBERG, April 25, 2025
Rising tennis talent Vicente Freda, aged 17, has been awarded the second wild card into the main draw of the Brasil Tennis Open – Ano II. The ATP Challenger Tour 50 event is set to take place from April 4 to May 11 on the clay courts of Associacao Leopoldina Juvenil in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Freda, who trains at Associacao Leopoldina Juvenil, will be making his main draw debut in a professional tournament. In 2024, he participated in the qualifying rounds of the same Challenger event in Porto Alegre.
“We are extremely proud to see our member Vicente Freda, one of the young tennis talents of Associação Leopoldina Juvenil, receive the wild card for the tournament,” said Luiz Augusto Portal, President of the club. “His selection for one of the special spots in the draw is well deserved and shows that he is on the right path to success in the sport.”
Freda shared his excitement and determination heading into this milestone event: “I have great expectations for this tournament. It will be my first time playing in the main draw of a Challenger. Last year, I received a wild card into the qualifying, and that experience motivated me to work even harder to come back stronger. I feel better prepared now—physically, mentally, and I’m more mature to face this challenge. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity. It’s something I’ve been visualizing for a long time, and I’m ready to give it my all and leave everything on court.”
With the tournament taking place at his home club, Freda is counting on the support of local fans for an extra boost during his debut, though the date of his first match is still to be announced.
“It’s very special for me to compete at the club where I train, surrounded by family, friends, and supporters. I had a good run at the Brasil Juniors Cup in February, and I’m counting on the same kind of energy and atmosphere this coming week,” Freda added.
Freda will join fellow Brazilian junior Luis Guto Miguel, who also received a wild card into the main draw. One final wild card is yet to be announced by the tournament organizers.
