With a strong turnout at the final held at the Tenis Club Argentino, Carolina Meligeni Alves was crowned champion of the W35 Buenos Aires I tournament, which marked the start of the international women’s tennis season in Argentina. She defeated Jazmin Ortenzi 6-2, 6-4 to claim the title on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Brazilian, ranked World No. 304, secured the eighth title on the ITF Pro Circuit, and her first in Argentina—a country where she resides and where she had previously lost three finals, one in Buenos Aires and two in Tucumán, between 2021 and 2023.

Seeded fourth in the tournament organized by the Argentine Tennis Association, the Campinas native dropped just one set throughout the week—in the quarterfinals against Italy’s Anastasia Abbagnato. In the final, she displayed impressive consistency to defeat her doubles partner in just over an hour and a half.

“I’ve played here a lot and reached several finals, but I had never won the biggest trophy until now. Today, I’m very happy; I think it was one of my best matches of the week, and it came right in the final. I was calm, the strategy my team and I planned worked well, so I’m thrilled with the win and with starting the year by claiming the first trophy,” Carolina Meligeni Alves said after the match.

Accompanied by her team and family, including her brother, professional tennis player Felipe Meligeni Alves, Brazilian Billie Jean King Cup team member Carolina Meligeni Alves set off for Club Nautico Hacoaj. There, her partner, Paraguayan Daniel Vallejo, was playing the final of the AAT Challenger Santander Tigre edition against Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas.

“Now I’ll do my recovery… My fitness coach is already giving me a stern look (laughs). I’ll recover, take a shower, have lunch to celebrate a bit with my family, and then we’ll head to Tigre. Hopefully, it doesn’t rain, and Dani has a great final too,” she said.
