TURIN/STARNBERG, May 17, 2024

The quarterfinals of the Piemonte Open Intesa Sanpaolo are set and home favourite Lorenzo Musetti leads the field. After a first-round bye, the top seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 175 clay-court tournament in Turin defeated Belgian David Goffin 6-4, 6-3 in his opening match on Friday.

Musetti capitalized on four of his six break-point chances to seal victory in one hour and 33 minutes.

“The score is a bit misleading because it was a very hard-fought match against a really tough opponent,” said Musetti. “He doesn’t give up ground in return, moves well, and takes away my time. I was brave in the key moments, doing the right things and keeping the right attitude.

“What do I expect from this tournament? I’d like to confirm the good feelings I had in Cagliari. I’m here to try to win my first tournament of the season and go to Roland Garros with a title in hand. It would be great to have an all-Italian final.”

Musetti will next take on Brazilian qualifier Felipe Meligeni Alves. Due to bad weather at the beginning of the week, the tournament is still behind schedule, which leads to a packed order of play for Saturday with all singles quarterfinals as well as semi-finals to be played.
