Bautista Torres Books Semi-Finals Spot At Santos Brasil Tennis Cup

Three players from Argentina have reached the semi-finals of the Santos Brasil Tennis Cup. Juan Bautista Torres defeated his compatriot Hernan Casanova 6-4, 6-0. The 22-year-old converted seven of his 17 break-point chances to advance in one hour and 32 minutes.

Bautista Torres, ranked World No. 457, aims to return to his career-high of 226 he achieved after winning his only ATP Challenger Tour trophy in Troyes, France in 2022. On Friday, he showed consistency and a high level of tennis.

“It was really good to win like this in the quarterfinals, everything I discussed with my coach I was able to execute, and it worked out. I’m very happy to be here in Santos and to make it to the semi-finals tomorrow,” said Bautista Torres.

The Buenos Aires native will next face No. 4 seed Hady Habib of Lebanon, who fought past Brazilian-born player based in the United States, Bruno Kazuhara, with a score of 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-4.

In the bottom half of the draw, second-seeded Argentine Santiago Rodriguez Taverna beat his fellow countryman Gonzalo Villanueva 6-3, 7-6(10). The World No. 246 sent down three aces and won 67 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in two hours and four minutes.

Up next for Rodriguez Taverna will be qualifier Alejo Lorenzo Lingua of Argentina, who was a 7-5, 7-6(1) winner over Adolfo Daniel Vallejo from Paraguay. The encounter lasted two hours and two hours and 16 minutes.
