Mpetshi Perricard Crowned Morelos Open Champion

The 2024 Morelos Open presentado por Metaxchange, a $82,000 ATP Challenger hard-court tournament, came to an end with an impressive victory by Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in front of a full house at Estadio Morelos.

The No. 5 seed defeated Colombian qualifier Nicolas Mejia 7-5, 7-5 in Sunday’s singles final. Accompanied by his powerful serve, Mpetshi Perricard hit 18 aces and converted two of his 16 break-point opportunities to seal victory in one hour and 58 minutes.

“It feels good to win a title. It’s a a lot of work. I am happy to have won a lot of matches. I stayed focused and calm during the important points,” said Mpetshi Perricard.

The 20-year-old Lyon native claimed his third ATP Challenger career title, having previously won in Leon, Mexico in 2023 and in Nottingham, United Kingdom in February. Mpetshi Perricard pocketed $11,200 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points.  

The Morelos Open presentado por Metaxchange was held at the complex of the Hotel Racquet Cuernavaca, located in an exclusive residential area just 10 minutes from the historic center of the city Cuernavaca, as well as the most important industrial and commercial area of the state of Morelos.
