Tepavac Claims Maiden Challenger Crown In Karshi

Marko Tepavac concluded an impressive run on the hard courts in Uzbekistan by claiming his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour. The 22-year-old from Serbia won Saturday’s final of the $50,000 Karshi Challenger against top-seed Dudi Sela 2-6, 6-3, 7-6.

Tepavac, who claimed 11 ITF Future career titles and knocked out the tournmant’s number two Karen Khachanov in the stage of the final eight, sent down eight aces and converted three of his 11 break points but also lost his serve three times.

Tepavac won less points than Sela, only 83 to 94, but the world number 251 kept calm in the decisive moments of the tie-break in the final set, winning the decider 7-4 after two hours and 13 minutes.

On Saturday, Enrique López-Pérez and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan clinched the doubles title with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Aleksandre Metreveli and Dmitry Popko. The encounter lasted only 49 minutes.
