Boris Becker has announced that he has started a coaching partnership with World No. 6 Holger Rune of Denmark. The pair will work together at least for the upcoming tournaments. After that, they will reassess the situation.
“I can confirm that I am Holger Rune’s coach,” said Becker in a preview of the latest Eurosport podcast “Das Gelbe vom Ball”.
“The contact has been there for a while. Now, the timing was right. My schedule allows it, and I’ve always been interested in Holger because of his passion and temperament on the tennis court. It makes me a bit proud that he asked me. Holger then invited me for a practice week in Monte-Carlo. I had long conversations there with his mother Aneke and his performance coach Lapo Becherini. The three of us are now responsible for Holger.”
At the beginning of the week, Rune posted the first photos of a practice session with the six-time Grand-Slam champion on Instagram, sparking speculation about a possible partnership. However, his mother Aneke had not confirmed this at the time.
