Malaga Open Awaits Star-Studded Line-Up

Malaga Open

MALAGA/STARNBERG, September 23, 2023

The ATP Challenger Tour 125 Malaga Open, taking place at the Inacua Racquet Center from October 8 to 15, will feature a star-studded line-up more akin to an ATP 250 tournament, with eight players from the Top 100 in the world rankings.

Among these players are World No. 61 Roberto Carballes Beana of Spain, champion of the Copa Sevilla Challenger earlier this month, World No. 68 Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands, 74th-ranked Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles, World No. 84 Alexandre Muller of France, World No. 86 Alexander Shevchenko from Russia, 87th-ranked Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan, World No. 94 Michael Mmoh from the United States and Spanish veteran Albert Ramos, ranked World No. 97.

The hard-court event is part of the highest-level Challengers in Spain and the entry list makes it one of the world’s top Challenger tournaments of the season. That list also includes the champion last year’s first edition of the Malaga Open, Frenchman Constant Lestienne, as well as exciting players for the audience like his compatriots Corentin Moutet and Benoit Paire.

Wild cards reserved for Carreno Busta and Davidovich Fokina

Furthermore, the organizers have revealed their intention to use two of their three wild cards for Pablo Carreno Busta and World No. 25 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Carreno Busta, who has reached a career-high ranking of World No. 10, is currently sidelined from the courts due to an elbow injury and played his last tournament in February. Davidovich Fokina will compete the week of October 4 in the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000 event and could potentially return to his hometown if he experiences a late elimination in China and agrees to play in Malaga.
