Hugo Gaston has captured the title of the Città di Trieste ATP Challenger 100 clay-court event in northern Italy. The 22-year-old Frenchman overcame sixth-seeded Italian Francsco Passaro 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final.
No. 4 seed Gaston battled his way to the championship match of the €118,000 clay-court event through the bottom half of the draw with wins over Italian Salvatore Caruso, Roman Andres Burruchaga from Argentina, his compatriot Kyrian Jacquet and second-seeded Spaniard Pedro Martinez.

By winning his third ATP Challenger career singles title, his second of the season after his triumph at the Iasi Open in Romania last week, Gaston earned €16,020 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points.
