PROSTEJOV, September 11, 2020

Defending champion Pablo Andujar has returned to the final of the €132,280 Moneta Czech Open in Prostejov. The top seed of the €132,280 ATP Challenger event defeated Stefano Travaglia of Italy, the tournament’s No. 3, 6-0, 6-3 on Friday afternoon. Andujar won 59 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 14 minutes.

Earlier in the day, Kamil Majchrzak overcame a one-set deficit to end the fantastic run of form of Czech teenager Jiri Lehecka, who appeared in his first semi-final at Challenger level. The No. 6 seed from Poland withstood eight aces from his 18-year-old opponent and broke Lehecka’s serve five times to prevail 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 after one hour and 41 minutes.

“It was an incredibly difficult match,” Majchrzak said. “Jiri played fantastically in the beginning and got me under pressure with his game. I also had problems with his service. He was able to capitalize on it and won the first set. I tried to play longer rallies from the second set on, which worked out well. I finally kept this tactic until the end. But I repeat, this match was really not easy.”

Andujar and Majchrzak will meet for the first time. The 24-year-old Polish is seeking his third Challenger title, his second on Czech soil after winning at Ostrava last year. Thirty-four year-old Andujar could lift his 12th Challenger career trophy. The championship match will start on 11 am local time.

Later in the afternoon, Zdenek Kolar and Lukas Rosol clinched the doubles title. The local wild card entries fought past N. Sriram Balji and Divij Sharan of India 2-6, 6-2, 10-6. The final lasted one hour and eight minutes.
