Ilkel Celebrates Maiden Challenger Title In Quimper

QUIMPER, February 2, 2020

Cem Ilkel has clinched his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour by winning the €46,600 Quimper Bretagne Occidentale. The World No. 266 from Turkey upset No. 5 seeded Frenchman Maxime Janvier 7-6(6), 7-5 in Sunday’s singles final at Parc des Expositions Quimper.

Ilkel battled through the bottom half of the draw and defeated No. 2 seed Danilo Petrovic of Serbia, No. 13 seed Constant Lestienne from France, Vit Kopriva of the Czech Republic and No. 3 seed Lukas Lacko from Slovakia en route to the championship match.

Ilkel, who lost both of his previous Challenger finals, fired 12 aces and won 75 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 41 minutes. Following his four title wins on the ITF Pro Circuit, the 24-year-old Istanbul native celebrated his first Challenger trophy and took away from Brittany, France €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

Earlier in the day, Andrey Golubev and Aleksandr Nedovyesov from Kazakhstan claimed the doubles title. The unseeded duo defeated Ivan Sabanov and Matej Sabanov from Croatia 6-4, 6-2. The encounter lasted one hour and two minutes.
