Seppi Takes Cary Challenger Title

Top seed Andreas Seppi defeated US-American Michael Mmoh 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-3 on Sunday to claim the singles title of the Atlantic Tire Championships. In the first meeting for both players, the World No. 77  from Italy withstood 12 aces, breaking Mmoh’s serve four times to prevail after two hours and 25 minutes.

Seppi lifted his  his ninth ATP Challenger career trophy, his first since Canberra last year. The 35-year-old from South Tyrol took away from North Carolina $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points. Seppi joins Tommy Robredo as the oldest winners on tour this year.

Mmoh/Bangoura take doubles title

Mmoh did double duty having advanced to the finals in both the singles and doubles championships. The 21-year-old took a quick 30-minute break after his singles match before starting the doubles championship. Mmoh and his partner, Sekou Bangoura, faced John-Patrick Smith of Australia and Treat Huey from the Philippines in the finals.

Similar to the singles championships, the doubles championships also went three sets. In a tight third set tie break, Mmoh and Bangoura edged Huey and Smith to secure victory after one hour and nine minutes to celebrate their first team title.
